Description

Build Details:
OS Version: Dev (OS Build 27695.1000)
App: React Native Gallery
App Version: 1.0.18.0
React Native Windows Version: 0.75.0
AT: Screen Reader

Pre-Requisite:
Turn on Narrator (Ctrl + Win + Enter).

Repro-Steps:

Launch the React Native Gallery app.
Navigate to ‘Navigation bar hamburger icon’ button and invoke it.
Now set narrator to scan on mode using caps + space key and navigate.
Actual Result:

While navigating in left navigation pane in scan on mode, narrator focus is falling on the decorative images and narrator remains silent. When user navigates using caps + arrow keys first focus is landing on hamburger icon button and announcing about it and for second navigation focus is landing on 3 lines and narrator remains silent.

Expected Result:

When user navigate in left navigation pane in scan on mode, narrator focus should not fall on the icons as it is not providing any information to the user.

User impact:

Users with visual impairments who rely on screen reader will face difficulties if narrator focus fall on the decorative images.

Research direction

Reproduce the issue in the React Native Gallery app with Narrator enabled, using the hamburger button and scan mode as described. Trace the left navigation pane and its decorative images; done means scan-mode focus skips images that provide no information while the hamburger button and other meaningful controls remain announced.
