Research direction
Reproduce the two interfaces described: the built-in Code Builder and the external Code Connection app on macOS Mojave with Minecraft EE 1.9.2. Compare their available controls and determine the relevant MakeCode editor entry point; done means the project-saving and simulator controls are available as expected in each interface.
