Description
The source archives GitHub automatically generates for tags [are not guaranteed to be stable over time](https://github.com/orgs/community/discussions/46034). They are thus unsuitable for safe consumption in downstream projects as their hashes may change and break builds.
Would it be possible to create proper GitHub releases for new versions and, crucially, explicitly upload a release archive with the sources (e.g. generated via `git archive`)?

Research direction
Start by reviewing the repository's current tag publication process and GitHub release configuration; the issue does not name a file or workflow entry point. Determine how new versions are published and how a source archive can be produced with git archive. Done means new versions have GitHub releases with an explicitly uploaded, stable source archive.
