Description
This provides us with a way of logging different aspects of code as different channels. Eventually, this can add a UI around this, but just having the plumbing in place is an important start - especially so that custom data sources may take advantage of it.

Research direction
The issue names no files, tests, or entry points. Start by surveying the SDK for existing logging conventions and clarify the ILogger and channel API before implementation. Done means the logging plumbing supports distinct channels and custom data sources can use it.
