Description

GFVS gives a generic "Querying remote for config...Failed" error message for the case that it does not trust the server certificate. It would help to fix such an issue if the message was more specific.

We are using GVFS in a scenario where we use a corpotate signing certificate. Until we imported that corporate CA into the Windows Trusted Certificate store, GVFS would fail with this message. It took over a week before we realized this was our problem.

Research direction

Start by reproducing the failure with an untrusted server certificate and trace where the generic "Querying remote for config...Failed" message is produced. Done means the certificate-trust cause is reported specifically enough to identify the missing corporate CA in the Windows Trusted Certificate store.
