Mouse Without Borders

Steps to reproduce

-Steps to reproduce:

  • Connect the laptop and desktop PC via Mouse Without Borders (using Service Mode).
  • Move the mouse cursor from the laptop to the desktop PC.
  • Type using the laptop's keyboard on the desktop PC (works fine at first).
  • Wait a few minutes (or perform some basic tasks).
  • Attempt to type on the desktop PC using the laptop's keyboard again. The cursor moves and clicks, but keyboard inputs are completely ignored.
  • Troubleshooting steps already attempted
  • Administrator Rights: PowerToys is running as Administrator on both machines.
  • Service Mode: "Use Service" is enabled on both systems.
  • Network Profile: Both computers are set to a "Private Network" profile on the same local subnet.
  • Clipboard Sharing: Tested with "Share Clipboard" disabled, but the issue persists.
  • Service Restart: Restarting the Mouse Without Borders service temporarily restores keyboard functionality, but it drops again after a few minutes.
  • Connection Reversal: Attempted to reverse the connection handshake (generating the security key on the laptop instead of the desktop), but the keyboard drop behavior remains the same.

❌ Actual Behavior

Description of the bug
I am using Mouse Without Borders via PowerToys to share my mouse and keyboard between a laptop and a desktop PC. While the mouse cursor transitions and clicks perfectly in both directions, the laptop's keyboard stops registering any input on the desktop PC after a few minutes of use. Interestingly, the desktop PC's keyboard can still write on the laptop without any issues (one-way functionality). The laptop keyboard works initially after restarting the service, but consistently drops after a short period.

Research direction

Start by reproducing the issue in Mouse Without Borders with Service Mode enabled on two Windows 11 machines, following the listed laptop-to-desktop keyboard steps and the service restart comparison. Done means keyboard input remains functional in that direction after several minutes while mouse movement and clicks continue to work.
