Description

Hi,
Is there a way to determine whether the debug engine attached to a native C++ application is
the local debuggeer or the remote debugger (msvsmon)?

I am subscrbing to debug events callback via:
((IVsDebugger)debugger).AdviseDebugEventCallback(this);

and implement the callback via:
int IDebugEventCallback2.Event(IDebugEngine2 pEngine, IDebugProcess2 pProcess,
IDebugProgram2 pProgram, IDebugThread2 pThread,
IDebugEvent2 pEvent, ref Guid riidEvent, uint dwAttrib)

I also wonder if there's a way to extract the remote hostname in case the remote debugger is attached.

Thanks,
Ofir

Research direction

Start with the IVsDebugger.AdviseDebugEventCallback registration and the IDebugEventCallback2.Event parameters shown in the issue. Trace the available debugger, process, and engine interfaces to determine whether they expose local/remote status or a remote hostname. Done means identifying and documenting the supported way to obtain both values, or confirming that the interfaces do not provide them.
