Description
Description
I have a (not small) shader that fails to compile when compiled with -Od, because of a validation error.
That in itself is a minor issue - The real problem is there is no reference to the line/file that causes the problem.
The compiler prints:
error: validation errors
Explicit load/store type does not match pointee type of pointer operand
Validation failed.
Compiler returned: 5
Steps to Reproduce
https://godbolt.org/z/bYoc641dT
Actual Behavior
Print a reference to the code causing the issue.
Environment
- DXC version 1.8.2405.17, and trunk on
- Host Operating System: Windows 11 24H2. (and whatever godbolt is using)

Research direction
Start with the Godbolt reproducer linked in the issue and inspect how DXC reports the validation error shown in the compiler output. Determine where source locations are lost between the shader compilation and validation diagnostic, then verify that the reported failure includes a useful file or line reference.
