Description
Message at bottom bar flashes (F1 / Ctrl-g)

I am often distracted by the constant toggle at the rightmost part of the bottom bar between "F1: help" and "Ctrl-g: help".
It happens, in my case, every time I scroll up or down two lines.
Could you please fix the blinking by fixating the message? By the way, since F1 is taken by Terminator, in my case "Ctrl-g: help" would be the most useful message.

Research direction
The issue names no source files, tests, or entry points. First reproduce the bottom-bar toggle while scrolling in the terminal and trace the code that updates the F1/Ctrl-g help message. Done means the message no longer flashes during scrolling and the preferred help text remains stable.
