Description
Description of the problem or steps to reproduce
Hi, I recently switched to Ubuntu and tried to install micro with apt-get.
It installs micro and works just fine, however, when I try to check for the version, it says Version: 0.0.0-unknown.
I think there is a similar issue on Debian (https://github.com/zyedidia/micro/issues/1582) but I am not sure how to fix it on Ubuntu, sorry!

Research direction
Reproduce the report by installing micro with apt-get on Ubuntu 20.04 and running micro --version; use the reported commit hash, if available, to compare the binaries. Done means the apt-installed binary reports its actual version instead of 0.0.0-unknown, with a regression check for the version output.
