Description

I really would like to map my left option key to alt. The solution in #1006, however, is not suitable, since some characters (@, ~) and maybe a handful others require the use of an unmapped option key.

I don't know if this is possible at all, but remapping those keys ( -> '@') wouldn't work either, because then it would work inside the editor, but not in the terminal.

Any ideas?

OS: macOS 11.6 intel
Terminal: iTerm 3.4.12

Research direction

No source file, test, or entry point is identified. Investigate how micro handles Option-key input on macOS and whether it can preserve characters such as @ and ~ for the terminal while mapping the left Option key to Alt; done requires a defined, reproducible behavior in macOS with iTerm.
