File move/delete hangs with faulty mounting external harddrives

Hi,
This one is a little funny. I have an external hard drive that I use a lot. But, lately it has been flacky on mounting. Fman shows it mounted sometimes while finder says it isn't. If I delete or move a file in fman when in that state, Finder pops up a dialogue saying the file can't be moved or deleted. Fman stay hung for quite a while (3-4 minutes).
Once I eject the drive and remount it, I have no issues. Other filemanagers do not see the mount when it is flacky like that, but fman and Alfred do see it.
