Research direction

The issue names no files, tests, or entry points. Start by locating the LMDB integration and the handling of MDB_INTEGERKEY and custom comparators, then determine whether both options can be supported together. Done should include a confirmed implementation approach and tests or measurements showing the intended big-endian key comparison works.
