Description
Are the footnotes purposedly highilighted like this?:

They work in preview, the editor works great! The only problem I've found is footnotes looking like that. This is not urgent, just to let you know.
P.S.: just a suggestion, after opening the metadata menu, it would be better to have a close button in the upper right corner. Btw, thanks for all your hard work, I'm enjoying Panwriter a lot!

Research direction
Reproduce the footnote appearance shown in the issue screenshot in Panwriter's editor, then compare it with the working preview. Trace the editor's footnote rendering to identify the unwanted highlighting; done means footnotes display consistently with the preview. The metadata-menu close-button suggestion is separate from the reported issue.
