Description

Problem Description

Andriod auto has been working great for me playback wise! Although I do love material UI, for AA, when I'm in split screen, the material ui player is very lacking when compared to Simpmusics. Can't even see the duration of the song.

Proposed Solution

I purpose that a simplified version of the simp music player be added to the AA experience as an option, similar to how you can change between simpmusic, apple music and material ui in the mobile app. Just adding the classic simpmusic style player as an option for split screen would be great! The way material ui looks in split screen on aa currently is it blends the cover art into the players background and lacks the length/duration, which gets on my nerves as the split screen player doesn't offer much more information then the task bar widget. Would also be cool if the visual crossfading sequence on the classic mobile player could came over too. Note I don't see a need for the full screen experience to change or have development time spent on as it's easy to just select your playlist on your phone and it seamlessly plays on aa without hassle (looking at you Amazon music with your annoying car mode for the mobile app).

Alternative Solutions

Just adding the duration to show up while in split screen to the existing material UI works too if this is low priority.

Research direction

Start by locating the existing Android Auto Material UI player and the mobile player-style selection logic, then compare their split-screen behavior with the classic SimpMusic player. Done means defining and implementing the requested simplified split-screen option, or the narrower duration display alternative, with the behavior verified in Android Auto.
