Description

Hi @matryer and maintainers,

First, thank you for xbar — it's been a staple on my menu bar for years.

The repo has been quiet for a while (last push was Sep 2024), so I wanted to ask sincerely rather than complain: are there any plans to restart active development?

I ask because the timing feels right. We're now in the "vibe-coding" era — LLM-assisted development has made it dramatically cheaper to write, maintain, and extend small tools like xbar and its plugins. A lot of the friction that used to make maintenance heavy (writing plugins, fixing edge cases, docs) is now much lighter. It feels like a great moment for a project like this to come back to life, whether that's:

- Picking up maintenance again (deps, macOS compatibility, bug fixes)
- Opening it up to more community maintainers
- Or just clarifying the project's status so contributors know where things stand

No pressure at all — mostly I'd love to know the current thinking, and whether help would be welcome. Thanks again for everything.

Research direction

The issue mentions no files, tests, or implementation entry points. Start by reviewing the repository status and recent maintenance history, then confirm with maintainers whether there is a defined contribution or revival plan; done would require an agreed scope rather than a single code change.
