Description

Great ideas coming from The Office of the Foundation.

Half-Shot suggests:

> I'd probably want the purpose of the instance to be fleshed out before new members are added. It's unclear to me what the server is for, and we don't seem to have gone to [great lengths](https://mastodon.matrix.org/about) to explain it

> The moderation challenges become less challenging if the scope of the server is tightly defined.
> imo, I'd rather have the server be a place for any ecosystem member to announce what their up to and keep about as on topic as we do in this room, but not have it become a "personal" server, as I think that invites too much chaos :)

Nico suggests:

> Could use a word about who represents the matrix foundation and who doesn't. Maybe "@[matrix@mastodon.matrix.org](mailto:matrix@mastodon.matrix.org) and @[foundation@mastodon.matrix.org](mailto:foundation@mastodon.matrix.org) represent the official stance of the foundation. Other users represent themselves." or so

Half-Shot suggests:

> It needs to be on the mastodon instance because that's where everyone will look first.
> But it could appear on the handbook, potentially linked.

> Something like "
>
> This is the Matrix Foundation's official fediverse instance. Matrix is ...etc etc.
>
> Members on this instance are part of the wider Matrix ecosystem.

Research direction

Start by reviewing the Mastodon instance and the handbook page at https://handbook.matrix.org/fediverse. Define the instance purpose, who may join, which accounts represent the Foundation, and that other members speak for themselves; publish the guidance on the instance and link to the handbook if appropriate.
