Description
I note that view.matrix.org was killed in the last month. In addition, guest accounts are seemingly going away? (at least on Gitter, enabling them does not allow me to view a room when unauthenticated)
What is the plan for viewing rooms publicly on Matrix? I admit I feel a bit disquieted about Gitter messages seemingly not being visible unauthenticated without me setting up an instance of this or matrix-static or something...
I would be happy to throw together a PR if there's anything I can do to help. I imagine I can't given this sounds like a social problem :-)

Research direction
No file, test, or entry point is named. Start by reviewing the repository's current handling of unauthenticated public-room viewing and the issue's concern about view.matrix.org and guest accounts. Done would require a maintainer-confirmed plan for public room access before implementation can be scoped.
