Description

particularly with .well-known. If a base URL of https://example.com/foo is specified, should the client use https://example.com/foo/_matrix/... or https://example.com/_matrix/ (because URL joining usually drops the last path component if it doesn't end with a /)

Research direction

Start by reviewing the issue's base URL example and the .well-known case, then compare the two URL-joining interpretations described. Done means the specification has an explicit, unambiguous rule for whether https://example.com/foo retains /foo when constructing Matrix URLs.
