Matrix -> xmpp message wasn't going through for one user, fixed by changing name

I'm not super clear about how to describe this issue.
There is an xmpp room which was bridged to matrix.
My display name on matrix was "Akshay S Dinesh (he/him)" initially, then I changed it to "Akshay S Dinesh (they/he)".
At this point, messages I sent to the room wouldn't show up on xmpp
At the same time user with name "Pirate Praveen (he/him)" was being able to send message to matrix room and have it show up at xmpp.
Then, I changed my name to "asd" and now my messages are going through too.
