Description

We spend a bunch of time trying to track down why symbols won't load without being preloaded, despite a correct linker config. In the short term we're just going to explicitly load the symbols.

Research direction

Start by reviewing binding.gyp and reproducing the node-purple symbol-loading failure without LD_PRELOAD. Trace how the native module loads its symbols; the work is done when it functions with the linker configuration alone and no explicit preload requirement.
