y axis label cut off in log scale

As the title says. In Jupyter Lab the y label is cutoff if using log scale and the numbers on the scale get too long (i.e. more than just `10^n`, like `x * 10^n`).

No source file or test is named. Reproduce the issue in JupyterLab with a log-scaled y-axis and long tick labels, then trace the ipympl rendering and layout path. Done means the y-axis label and expanded tick labels are fully visible without being cut off.
