Description
At the moment, nothing in the Drupal system prevents two users from working on the same item simultaneously. A user will only receive an email notification if someone makes an edit to an item that user previously modified. Is it possible to either lock down an item while it is being edited, or have a warning pop up when another user opens the item? This is a major problem because users can lose substantial changes if someone else is working on their content at the same time.

Research direction
Start by reviewing how Drupal currently handles simultaneous editing and the existing email notification behavior for previously modified items. Compare the two requested outcomes—locking an item or warning when another user opens it—and define which behavior should be implemented and how completion will be verified.
