Deselecting Objects from already selected Objects not possible with Rectangle

Description
To Reproduce
I select like 10 Objects and then I hold CTRL, SHIFT, ALT or any combination but I can't subtract anymore any of the Objects from my selection? I mean it works by single clicking on the selected Objects to remove them from the whole selection. But I thought this reducing was also possible by deselecting several Objects with one action by also using another rectangle action to reduce a part of it?
