Rendering osm-bright tiles in english only

Description
I am using osm-bright style to render my own tiles on my tile server. The labels.mss has the:
@name attribute set to [name-en]
But still Chinese, Japanese and many other country tiles get rendered in their respective languages. Does anyone know how to tweak the osm-bright style sheet so that tiles are rendered in English only?

Start with labels.mss and inspect how the @name setting using [name-en] is applied when osm-bright renders labels.
