symbol-spacing hides nearby symbols on other lines

Description
Setting symbol-spacing to a high number (to prevent symbol repetition) is unfortunately not working as expected.
It seems to prevent other nearby symbols (see top line here: http://jsfiddle.net/wm18a33d/136/) from showing up and justify/align center is then also no longer working.
