Description

**mapbox-gl-js version**: master

Almost opposite to #1551, if a tile request returns a 5xx status code, should there be an exponential backoff to re-requesting it?

Related to the work you've been doing with respect to tile expiry @lbud?

Research direction

Review the tile-request handling related to the 5xx behavior described here, then read issue #1551 and the referenced tile-expiry work for context. Done means errored tiles are re-requested with an exponential backoff policy after 5xx responses, with the behavior verified against the existing request flow.
