Description
**mapbox-gl-js version**: v2.6.1, v2.7 beta
**browser**: Android Chrome on Pixel 2
On the "Free Camera Point" testing page, the terrain occasionally disappears, causing the volcano to disappear from view. This seems to happen when the camera reaches a certain point in its cycle (perhaps when DEM resolution decreases), but does not happen every time.

Research direction
Start with the Free Camera Point testing page and reproduce the terrain disappearance in Android Chrome on a Pixel 2. Observe the camera cycle near the point where DEM resolution may decrease, and compare behavior across repeated runs. Done means the terrain and volcano remain visible throughout the camera cycle.
