Description

Priority: High

Problem

https://buttondown.com/mantoshkumar/archive/ is currently completely empty, despite the newsletter being presented as a live publication. In addition, https://buttondown.com/mantoshkumar does not appear to provide an obvious way for an existing subscriber to manage their subscription, making the hosted Buttondown experience feel incomplete or broken.

Goal

Determine whether this is expected Buttondown behavior, a publication/configuration problem, or a missing subscriber-management setup, and make the hosted newsletter experience coherent.

Scope

  • Inspect why the public archive is empty: no published emails, archive visibility settings, draft/private state, or another configuration cause.
  • Determine what content should appear in the archive under the newsletter publication policy.
  • Verify what https://buttondown.com/mantoshkumar is intended to provide to visitors versus existing subscribers.
  • Identify the supported subscriber self-service path for managing email/preferences/unsubscribe status.
  • Ensure subscriber-management links are discoverable from actual newsletter emails and, where appropriate, from the website.
  • Avoid exposing subscriber information publicly.

Acceptance criteria

  • The reason the public archive is empty is identified and documented.
  • The archive correctly reflects whatever content policy is adopted for public newsletter issues.
  • The intended role of the Buttondown landing page is documented.
  • Existing subscribers have a clear, functioning self-service path for managing or ending their subscription.
  • Website/newsletter copy does not imply functionality Buttondown does not actually provide.
  • No subscriber data is exposed publicly.

Research direction

Start with the Buttondown archive and landing-page URLs in the issue, then inspect the publication settings, published or draft state, and links in actual newsletter emails. Document the cause of the empty archive, the landing page’s intended role, and the supported subscriber self-service path. Done means the adopted archive policy and subscriber flow are clear, copy matches real functionality, and no subscriber data is public.
