Description
Imported from the engineering backlog (
_bmad-output/implementation-artifacts/backlog.md, storyfacility-icons).
Priority P3 (do-first order) | Severity: n/a | Status: idea | Epic: SimTower parity | Type: feature-request | Recorded: 2026-07-08
Problem / motivation
Gated: needs a spec + icon art. Owner-requested 2026-07-08 (real-game reference: the SimTower build palette / room glyphs seen via the harness). For Classic especially, represent rooms/modules with little pictographic icons (à la the original's palette glyphs) instead of flat color fills + text labels, in the build palette and/or the unit representation. Owner flagged it should read well on mobile (icons scale/tap better than text at small sizes). Scope call: palette-only vs also in-world unit glyphs; likely a Classic-mode presentation toggle so Modern can keep its current look. Pairs with the icon set the palette already needs.

Research direction
Start with the facility-icons story in _bmad-output/implementation-artifacts/backlog.md, then locate the build palette and any unit representation entry points. Before implementation, resolve whether icons are palette-only or also appear in-world, define the Classic/Modern behavior, and obtain the required icon art. Done means an agreed specification and pictographic presentation that remains usable on mobile.
