Summary

It would be great if, instead of creating multiple sub-work items to represent the different subtasks of a main task, we could also use a checklist to track progress through sub-items, similar to how Trello and Kanbanize handle task management.

Why should this be worked on?

Using checklists instead of creating multiple sub-work items would simplify task management, reduce administrative overhead, and improve visibility of progress. For tasks that are made up of many small steps, creating separate work items can quickly clutter the backlog and make planning more difficult. A checklist-based approach would allow teams to track completion of subtasks within a single work item, keeping related information together while maintaining a clear view of overall progress.

This functionality is commonly available in tools such as Trello and Kanbanize and helps teams focus on execution rather than managing large numbers of child items. It would improve usability, reduce board complexity, and make task tracking more efficient for day-to-day work.
