Activated Blinkmoth Nexus Not Retaining Types When Becoming a Copy of Something

If I have an activated [[Blinkmoth Nexus]] (1/1 flier) and [[Augmenter Pugilist]] on the battlefield, and I target the Pugilist with [[Echoing Equation]], the Blinkmoth Nexus is incorrectly becoming a Troll Druid. Because of the layer system, its types should remain Artifact Creature - Blinkmoth. For example, if I have a second Blinkmoth Nexus on the battlefield, XMage won't allow me to target the first Blinkmoth with its +1/+1 ability.
