Wizards School cycle of lands requiring choice every time.

With normal dual lands, when remaining mana required is either colourless or only one of the colours that land can produce, clicking the land will automatically select which part of the mana cost you are playing instead of requiring you to manually select.

However, the cycle including Wizards School asks every time.

If I need to pay 3, and I tap Wizards School, it doesn't automatically tap for {1}, but still gets me to choose which option to use.

Also, may be related, but uncertain. I cast a hybrid {U/B} spell then tapped Pillar of Paruns to pay for it - and was prompted to choose between the five different colours of mana for the mana to produce - rather than just automatically paying for the {U/B} that I needed.
