Description

I'm looking to use this in a project, but saw that private code (using --index-url or --extra-index-url) is not supported. I wanted to ask what the reason was? Is it simply because it has not yet been implemented or is there some other reason (security etc.)? Thanks for your work on this!

Research direction

The issue names support for private code through --index-url or --extra-index-url but does not identify any files or tests. Start by locating the parser's handling of these options and clarifying whether the limitation is deliberate or unimplemented. The completion criteria are not defined and would need agreement before work begins.
