Description

I was hoping to find some hours to write something and submit a PR, but it hasn't happened so far, so I'll make an issue instead.

I can recommend pytest based on previous experience https://github.com/lowRISC/abicop/blob/master/test_rvcc.py

Research direction

Start by inspecting the Python libraries and tools in util/ and review the linked abicop test_rvcc.py example. Determine which utilities lack tests and whether pytest fits; done means the relevant libraries and tools have meaningful test coverage.
