Description

A few opcode-level optimizations are possible but haven't been done:

  • Pre-allocate immutable primitive objects loaded with Load* (Null, Int, Float, Bool)
  • Merge basic blocks with only one Branch reference into the referrer
  • Compile-time code evaluation
  • Perform data flow analysis and transform uses of execution stack into more efficient code

  3. Fork the repository and make your change on a branch.
  4. Open a pull request that references the issue number.

Research direction

Start by locating the compiler's opcode optimization and compile-time evaluation entry points, since the issue names no files or tests. Review the completed optimization items for existing patterns; done means implementing the unchecked compile-time code evaluation item and confirming existing behavior remains correct.
