Description
I've seen the issue to add SNES style support (#70) and I think we could do that and much more.
I've opened a PR for full Xbox/Playstation style controller support. It's not done yet, but the only thing missing is a convenient way to access the default controller and proper parameters for user defined event handling functions.
PR is #347.

Research direction
Start with PR #347, which contains the existing Xbox/PlayStation controller support. Review the remaining work described here: convenient access to the default controller and proper parameters for user-defined event handlers; done means both gaps are addressed and the controller support is complete.
