Accumulo 1.7.x binary releases

Accumulo 1.7.x binary releases

Since the two major Hadoop vendors are still on Accumulo 1.7, it would be helpful to have official binary releases using the older version of thrift (see https://www.geomesa.org/documentation/user/accumulo/install.html#accumulo-versions )

I'm setting the fix version to 2.1.0 as a way to remind us to look at this before we kick out 2.1.0.

IMLE it mostly works (because Thrift is provided) but the Spark runtime definitely barfs unless Thrift is downgraded (to 0.9.1 IIRC)

I'd like to do something like spark does, where they have various distributions available for download, e.g. 'spark-without-hadoop', 'spark-hadoop-2.8', etc. This should make installation a lot easier as well, if we provided distros for popular versions of hadoop, hbase, accumulo and cassandra. I think that main geomesa could provide the 'without-foo' distros, and then we could have a secondary downstream project to bundle up various versions. We'd have to consider eclipse and licensing with where we host things though.

Another idea that goes with this would be to include 'install-foo' scripts for different distros, like CDH.

James Srinivasan yeah, Emilio and I were chatting about this one… Do you have a quick way to help support this (both the pom changes and some quick testing with one or both of the vendors)?

If not, I think this issue may not make the cut for 3.0. (At least I’m not in a position to prioritize higher…)

Alright, since 3.0 is coming out soon, I’m gonna go ahead and bump this out. The vendors need to catch up. Also, Accumulo 2.0 is pretty awesome, so yeah….

The issue names no files, tests, or release entry points. Start by locating the project's binary packaging and release configuration, then verify Accumulo 1.7.x, older Thrift, and vendor environments; done would mean a supported official binary distribution, although the thread indicates this work was deferred because vendors needed to catch up.
