Description

Description:

I am encountering an issue where neither the web version of LocalSend (web.localsend.org) nor the native app can detect each other. The web version only detects another website but does not detect the native app, and the native app does not detect the web version.

Steps to Reproduce:
  1. Open the LocalSend web version at web.localsend.org in a browser.
  2. Ensure the LocalSend native app is running on your device.
  3. Attempt to send a file from the native app to the web version, or vice versa.
Expected Behavior:
  • The web version should detect the native app on the local network and allow file transfers.
  • The native app should detect the web version and allow file transfers.
Actual Behavior:
  • The web version detects another website but does not recognize the native app as a valid source or destination for file transfers.
  • The native app does not detect the web version as a valid source or destination for file transfers.
Environment:
  • Web version URL: web.localsend.org
  • Native app version: 1.17.0 (Android), 1.16.1 (56) (Windows)
  • Operating System: Android 14, Windows 11 24h2
  • Browser: Chrome 138.0.7204.179 (Android), Chrome 138.0.7204.184 (Official Build) (64-bit) (Windows)
  • Both the web client and native app are on the same local network.
Additional Information:
  • Both the web version and native app are running and have the necessary permissions (local network access, etc.) granted.
  • Devices are confirmed to be on the same network.
  • The issue persists after restarting both the web app and native app.

Research direction

Start by reproducing the discovery failure with web.localsend.org and the listed Android or Windows app versions on the same local network. Trace the web and native discovery behavior and compare their interoperability; done means each side detects the other and file transfers work in both directions.
