Description

There are some aspects to interacting with Silo files and data via python (and even C) interface that could be improved a bit. Some of the ideas are described in the Wiki page describing a generalized read interface.

That said, some of the useful things to add to the python interface are

  • first class support for nameschemes
  • suppot for traversing mixed material objects

Research direction

Start with the linked Wiki page on the generalized read interface, then inspect the existing Python and C interfaces for how Silo files, nameschemes, and mixed material objects are exposed. The work is complete when the agreed interface improvements provide first-class namescheme support and traversal of mixed material objects.
