Project Description

An emergency based app where patients can request for ambulance services or medical emergency responses. In addition to instant emergency alerts, the app will provide consultation services, and users will be able to book appointments, sets medicine reminders and get updates and medical emergency alerts. Patients will therefore be able to receive medical attention in the shortest time possible.

How is Livepeer used for this project?

Emergency alerts will be uploaded by the Ministry of Health where this app will be getting them from and streaming them to the users, secondly the app intends on streaming Health events to the users, thirdly, consultations will include in-person, voice-calls and video-calls so Livepeer will be implemented in, but not limited to, the video-calls consultations, streaming emergency alerts and the health events.

How will you improve your project with this grant? What steps will you take to meet this objective?

  • It runs on Android with the prospect of running on iOS too, so this grant will help in the migrating process.
  • This app mainly uses open source software but also a lot of software for geolocating, third party integration, frameworks, require payments so this grant will help in that too.
  • This grant will help with the expenses like internet, transport, advertising, server & db maintenances etc

Was this project started at a hackathon or another web3 event? Which one?

Siro application has been in the works for a very long time but more work on it and its actualization have been in the backdrop build event.

Currently, in the first phase, only one member, a software developer, is working on Siro, and for the remainder of this Backdrop build V5 cohort. A Ugandan aged 26

WORK HISTORY
From Aug 2022 to Feb 2023 he worked remotely with the Society For Health Information Systems Programmes (HISP India) as a Software Engineer Consultant, where he was:

  • Writing clean code to develop functional web applications by providing back end support to expose existing APIS available in OpenMRS platform.
    Performing UI tests to optimize performance.
  • Collaborate with Front-end developers to integrate user-interface elements with back end logics.
  • Writing back end code using Java, Spring mvc, hibernate and other technologies as required.
  • Developing rest API using these technologies and framework that can be integrated or can be consumed with other application in the front end including FHIR and HL7.

What is the project’s expected deliverable at the conclusion of the grant time period?

The project, by end of this month, is expected to have a working application launched to production in which patients can request for ambulance services, get consultation services, book appointments, sets medicine reminders and get updates and medical emergency alerts from the Ministry of Health (MoH). Patients will therefore be able to receive medical attention in the shortest time possible.

What is the one thing (the core mechanic) you want someone to do when using your deliverable?

In my local area (Kampala, UG), research shows that patients face a lot of challenges en route to the hospital due to transport means, hospitals have the ambulances and there is a lot of private services, but their hotlines are always busy. There is a need for emergency ambulances and this app will help the patients address this problem by putting emergency ambulance services at their fingertips.

How will this deliverable benefit the Livepeer ecosystem?

Livepeer as a software provides an opportunity to deliver an infrastructure that can power video streaming which will help the patients get the best experience when streaming Health events uploaded by the Ministry of Health and the hospital. Furthermore, it will help patients get the best high quality video experiences during video-call consultations easing communication between doctor and patient

How did you learn about the Livepeer Grants Program?

During this backdrop build cohort V5, the organizers encouraged us to get partners for tech support among others, that's where I learnt and added Livepeer as a partner hoping to use it in my application.
