Description

In the catalyst-api (and other projects) we should refactor the code to create a session once and then re-use it. This would be more straightforward and would help the w3s driver to not force using the global variable to store its state.

Research direction

Start by locating the catalyst-api code and the w3s driver references mentioned in the issue. Trace where driver sessions are created and where the driver stores state globally. Done means a session is created once and reused across the relevant projects without requiring a global variable for w3s state.
