Description

We have lots of defconfigs, they're a bit of a mess and they're not all useful.

Proposal:

  • Make ppc64 (and therefore ppc64le) the primary configs that people are expected to build.
    • Enable 64K pages.
    • Make sure they enable all the modern options that pseries and powernv have.
  • Convert pseries to just pseries (ie. no powernv).

Decide if we even need:

  • pseries
  • powernv
  • maple
  • cell
  • ps3
  • pasemi

Research direction

Start by locating the ppc64, pseries, powernv, maple, cell, ps3, and pasemi defconfigs in the Linux kernel tree and comparing their enabled options. Determine which configurations are still needed, how ppc64 and ppc64le should be represented, and what the resulting primary server configs must enable.
