File menu item selected but not clicked on tap in touchscreen displays

Issue

I'm having a weird issue with my new touchscreen-enabled laptop on Linux Mint 19. The laptop is a Lenovo Yoga 510 (AMD 9410 cpu). Opening the file menu in xreader and tapping on an item seems to simply select that item, but not actually successfully click it.

Touchscreen functionality otherwise seems to work fine on the laptop.

For example, if I open xreader (Linux Mint's native pdf viewer app), I can successfully tap on File and this will bring the file menu up, but then tapping on Close only highlights it, but doesn't actually select it to close the program.

Steps to reproduce

Open xreader. Tap on the file menu, the file menu should open. Tap on the close option; the option should be selected and result in closing the app. Instead, 'close' gets highlighted in the menu, but just stays there and nothing happens.

Expected behaviour

Tapping on 'close' should successfully click that item and close the window.

I originally reported this issue on unix.stackexchange here, where I was advised to submit it as a bug here instead.

The issue is not specific to xreader per se, but I'm submitting the bug in the context of the application I have found it, as per the bug submission guidelines. However I suspect it has more to do with the kind of graphical toolkit used, or perhaps the window manager.

Examples of apps featuring a standard file menu that do not demonstrate this issue:

No source file, test, or entry point is named. First reproduce the menu behavior in Xreader 1.8.5 on Linux Mint 19 Cinnamon with a touchscreen, then compare it with the listed affected and unaffected applications to narrow down whether the issue is in the shared graphical toolkit or window manager. Done means tapping a File menu item activates it, including Close.
