Flickering when Alt-Tab away from Fullscreen Games

Bug description

When I alt-tab out of a fullscreen game, sometimes it causes a strobe/flickering effect over the new window as if the game and the window i switched to are fighting for control of the display.
This usually happens while quickly swapping to the game window and immediately to another window rather quickly.

It looks to be the same/similar issue as this old report from 2014:

Steps to reproduce

1. open a fullscreen game (specifically Helldivers 2 running in proton + gamescope, but I think I have had this issue with other fullscreen games and perhaps some non-steam games too)
2. alt-tab with the cinnamon window picker keybind to any other window
3. experience flickering

Expected behavior

Expected game window to unfocus and allow other window to show properly even when changing windows quickly.

Additional information

As stated before, the game i play the most (and thus experience the glitch the most with) is helldivers 2 on steam with these launch options:
gamescope -f -W 3440 -H 1440 -w 3440 -h 1440 --force-grab-cursor -- %command% --useallavailablecores

I cannot confirm at time of posting if this happens with other games or with other launch options, but I believe it has happened to me before. If there is interest in this issue, I will delve further into finding other examples to reproduce.

No source file or test is named in the report. First reproduce the flicker with Cinnamon 6.6.8, a fullscreen Helldivers 2 session under gamescope, and rapid window-picker Alt-Tab switching, then compare the behavior with the linked 2014 report. Done means identifying and correcting the focus transition so the selected window displays without flickering.
