Bug description

If you look closely, you can see that as soon as the menu is expanded, the “Advanced Network Configur...” entry changes to its full name “Advanced Network Configuration” and thus takes up all of its space.

This happens when the start menu is too small. However, you can see here that the start menu adjusts its size in the wrong direction and collapses other entries in the application section, making them partly unreadable, and it gets worse the smaller the start menu is so it should correctly expand to the right when space is tight and not to the left.

Steps to reproduce

Expand a menu Entry with a right click (where you can add to favorite, desktop..) and make sure there is also an entry on the right side which is abbreviated to ... due to the length of its name.

Expected behavior

The menu size remains constant or at least expands to the right.

Research direction

Reproduce the issue on Linux Mint 22.1 with Cinnamon 6.4.8 using the described right-click expansion and abbreviated entry. Trace the Cinnamon start-menu sizing and expansion behavior, then verify that expanding an entry keeps the menu stable or expands it to the right without making application entries unreadable.
