Description
When selecting the Mongolian (Bichig) keyboard layout in the Cinnamon keyboard layout applet, the Chinese flag is displayed instead of the Mongolian flag. This misrepresentation is misleading and culturally insensitive as the Mongolian language in both its Cyrillic and Traditional Bichig form is officially represented by the Country of Mongolia, not China.
Steps to Reproduce:
- Open System Settings > Keyboard > Layouts.
- Add the 'Mongolian (Bichig)' keyboard layout.
- Ensure the keyboard layout applet is added to the panel.
- Switch to the Mongolian (Bichig) layout.
Expected Behavior:
The applet should display the Mongolian flag when the Mongolian (Bichig) layout is active.
Actual Behavior:
The applet displays the Chinese flag when the Mongolian (Bichig) layout is active.
Additional info:
The applet also shows "CN" when switched to Mongolian (Bichig), suggesting a deeper mis-match between language and country.

Research direction
Reproduce the mismatch through System Settings > Keyboard > Layouts and the Cinnamon keyboard layout applet, selecting Mongolian (Bichig) and checking the displayed flag and country code. Trace the applet's keyboard-layout mapping entry point; done means Mongolian (Bichig) displays the Mongolian flag and no longer shows CN.
