Bug description

Hi,

I tried many things, but I can't figured out why I have washed colors in Mint 22.1. I installed the system yesterday, everything worked out of the box, but I noticed this bug when I was ready to work. Here are some info:

  • The bug is present on a booted 22.1 USB image (No driver installed or what so ever).
  • Not all the Apps are color washed.
  • I tried to set the nvidia_drm.fbdev=1 parameter to my kernel boot, but it doesn't fix the issue.
  • Same kernel/GPU driver version on mint 22, and I have no issue.
  • My BIOS is updated to the latest 4101 version from december.
  • Secureboot is set as "other OS"
  • I tought about xrandr, but I don't have RGB or colorprofile option to try. I also discarted it as some app have proper sRGB profile set.

What I think is an issue with mint color mode not set to RGB. Some apps override the color format, so they appear colorfull, but most that use the system setting don't. A simple test:

  • Running Chrome without touching setting: washed colors
  • Running Chrome forcing sRGB in chrome://flags/#force-color-profile : proper colors
  • Firefox or Steam have RBG profile set by default: proper colors

But it's not only a Chrome issue. Taking a simple screenshot and display it with Xviewer shows washed colors. I switch back to mint 22 in the meanwhile because everything is fine, and I kept a 22.1 copy to make test if needed.

Research direction

No source file or test is named. Start by reproducing the washed-out colors in Chrome and Xviewer on Mint 22.1, then compare with Mint 22 and the reported forced sRGB behavior. Done means identifying and correcting the Cinnamon display-color behavior so affected apps show proper colors.
