Bug description
The 'Favourites' applet misbehaves in the following ways.
-
When I added the applet for the first time, nothing seemed to happen. Perhaps it was because I had no 'favourited' items. But see also 2.
-
When I added the applet for the second time, having in the meanwhile 'favourited' something, two applets became visible on the panel.
-
Eventually - I am unsure how; perhaps it was my attempt to add and move 'spacers' (which sometimes seemed not to materialise) - no instances of the favourite applet showed at all, even after restarting Cinnamon. I have yet to try a reboot.
Steps to reproduce
Please see above.
Expected behavior
a) Re 1 and 2 above: an applet should not be added in such a way that the addition is both silent and invisible.
b) Re 3 above: applets should not simply disappear.
Additional information
The panel at issue is the only one on the system. It is a left panel. (I would like a top panel instead but I cannot have one because of bug #11803.) The panel is set to auto-hide.

Research direction
No source file or test is named. First reproduce the Favourites applet lifecycle on Mint 22 with Cinnamon 6.2.9 using the single auto-hidden left panel, including adding it before and after favouriting an item; done means the applet is added visibly once and remains present after panel changes and restarting Cinnamon.
