Bug description
After a fresh install of Ubuntu Cinnamon 24.04 I always encounter this error, no matter what hardware I install it on.
If at any time I open the "Users and Groups" tool, there is a delay in opening the app. Once it does open, it seems a bit sluggish and unresponsive for a brief period. After that, everything seems fine until a message of "System Program Problem Detected - Do you want to report the problem now?" appears.
Using the report problem button seems to do nothing. I can't figure out where the error is logged. It always comes back, with every reboot, and sometimes hours/days later if the system isn't rebooted.
It only does this if I had launched "Users and Groups" for the first time. If I don't, I never encounter the error. If I do, it always returns, and on any system I install it on, across a variety of hardware and VMs, and regardless of usernames or group names I do or don't create.
I've encountered this since the launch of 24.04, and it hasn't gone away with patching.
Any ideas?
Steps to reproduce
- Fresh install of Ubuntu Cinnamon 24.04.x
- Launch Users and Groups - do/don't do anything, just opening it seems to cause it
- Close the app
- Wait an undetermined amount of time, or launch a system config app such as Themes, Displays, etc.
- "System program problem detected" appears - Report Problem button does nothing
Expected behavior
App should work as normal, not display a mysterious generic message
Additional information
I believe this is due to the Users and Groups app because I realized on a personal system with only my user account, I never had encountered the error, but when installing it for other folks that had multiple users/family accounts, it was always occurring.
Since then, I'm convinced it's the Users and Groups app, as fresh installs today with a newly downloaded ISO does it on both a VM (VirtualBox) and a laptop, but only after opening that app.
Sure, I can use the CLI to add users/groups, but I love Cinnamon for newbies and non-technical folks.

Research direction
Reproduce the issue by opening the Users and Groups tool on Ubuntu Cinnamon 24.04.x, then wait for the generic system-program warning as described. Investigate the available error reports or logs to identify what the tool triggers; done means the cause is understood and opening the app no longer produces the warning.
